Alright, Australia ... look out ... Sajini and I are headed your way ... in a year or two ... after we stop off at Figi ... anyone else want to come along?
Here's my secret. Like any great student, I will study the exquisite pages of the Anthropologie catalog (talk about eye-candy!) and make mental note of the general fashion ideas.
When I go shopping, I scower the inexpensive stores (like Target) for items that fit the general Anthropologie style. It's much kinder on my pocketbook.
Maybe it's different in the US, but I find Target too expensive than it ought to be. Do you have the shops Valleygirl and Jay Jays?
Back to fashion watching, I like to observe stylish older ladies so that when I'm older I don't dress like either a)mutton dressed up as lamb (or ham!) or b)a dag in beige and sailor stripes.
That's precisely why more and more I'm shying away from fads and embracing the classical (however, accessories will jazz anything up). My personal fashion varies.
One day I'll be "the Republican Congressman's wife" and the next you'll see me in Boheme Chic (the more common style of choice) and then still others ... well ... who knows?!!
The same goes for make-up.
As for hair ... well ... i can never seem to wear it the same way twice.
i'm sure we have your equivalent of those stores. But more often than not, I leave with nothing and feel terribly out of place amongst so many 15 year old girls. I know they look at me and wonder why i'm even there.
I used to not wear skirts or dresses much ... until college where it was required (got to love the Fundies). But now (perhaps a positive outcome of those 4 years) I love wearing feminine skirts and dresses. Plus, it's a tad bit difficult for me to find "trousers" long enough for me.
Yeah, I always feel out of place in such shops too! I still end up buying something, though. In the changeroom mirror it looks quite modest and then I come home and look at it and realise that the only place I can atually wear that is in a nightclub.
Anyway, totally with you on dressing classicaly rather than fadishly. I used to be a fashion victim, but like you, I'm realising the importance of timeless clothing. BTW I totally dig that green suit you're wearing in the Artshow pictures.
And skirts! So feminine and so much variety. The "fundies" got that right. ;)
NO WAY WAS LAURA IN TOWN! I miss that chica! I happened to be out of town on graduation day...ah--imagine that! I never seem to cross paths with the visitors!
not one to be lumped in with everyone else, i enjoy being different: i laugh when i ought to cry, i run off the sides of mountains, i can't answer the question 'where are you from?', i told my husband i loved him before i met him, and i'm a woman who is doing her part to reverse the negative trends of extreme feminism. i seek to encourage my brothers-in-Christ, and discuss ways in which women can do the same.

I've made a vow that I will only buy from Anthropologie if the item is on sale.

I looked up Anthropologie on the net and they have the loveliest clothes! (Pity it would cost me a million Australian dollars to buy a bracelet.)
So much better than the standard slutty tacky Supre and Alleygirl wear.
I know! Aren't they fabulous?!!

I observe the older women, as well.

doesn't matter how much "classical" dress you choose, if you have a daughter, she will still think you are a "geek"
I like the black dress too. You look classy in it.
I was with Rowdy's comment here
Oh and I love you too :)
