"the mother-of-all muck"

I grew up in the village in the picture above. Sigh. ... the memories ... roller skating, May Day, hiding in fields, "slide-for-life", the produce market, the pizza restaurant, the public pool, cross-country skiing ... I knew every corner of this quaint little "dorf". There was this one time ...

Well ... anyway ... nothing like this every happened in MY village ... but it could have ... and sometimes it smelled like it had.

Dorf is the German word for "village". Sorry about that. Germans capitalize all of their nouns ... so I have since changed "Dorf" to "dorf" to alleviate any more confusion.

But Bamberg IS in Bavaria, the same "state" as my village was in. Bavaria, in my mind, is a lot like Texas. It is one of, if not THE, largest states in Germany. The people are friendly and enjoy simple living. Others, however, view Bavarians as "country-bumpkins" and backward. Some Bavarians fantasize about their "state" being its own country. Other Germans wish they would go ahead and do it.

The name of the village where the catastrophe took place is called Elsa.
